star wars app

The goal

I was tasked with creating an informational-based app on a specific subject or media, an open-ended topic.

The process

Given the immense information and my passion for the world, I chose Star Wars as the subject for my piece. I watched the movies, and the shows, and read the books in preparation. This resulted in deciding on space themes, colors, typography, imagery, and effects to suck you in, just like it did for me during my research to create it!

cereal

box

The goal

I was tasked with creating a cereal box, its mascot, logos, and an engaging game for a call to action.

The process

I love coffee, so of course I made a coffee-flavored cereal. With this, I chose brown and warm colors, coffee and liquidy themes, consistent typography, and jumping on the grain effect train with my illustrations.

Continuation of cereal to the back with the game I created and a call to action. In addition, there’s an excerpt about the cat mascot, Toby.

graphic

The goal

I was tasked with creating an infographic. This entailed illustrations, basic information, and graphs. With my passion for coffee, I again went with the theme.

The process

My intention was for individuals with or without a liking for coffee to walk away with a surface-level knowledge about coffee. Maintaining this warm and mellow feeling of a cup of coffee, I went again with browns and warm colors. Legible and modern typography, consistent illustrations, and bringing coffee themes throughout every element.

graphic

The goal

I was tasked with creating an infographic that compared two typefaces that are very similar to each other.

The process

Two of my favorite typefaces are Futura and Neue Kabel, and they happen to be very similar in construction. During my research on these typefaces, and observed that Futura starred in the 1968 film, “2001: A Space Odyssey” which resulted in picking a space theme.

poster

The goal

I was tasked with advertising a product via a poster from the aesthetics of the late 1800s.

The process

Doing research on the era and its many unique aspects of advertising, I chose a prevalent product of the time, cigarettes. Although the era wasn’t keen on including feminine figures, I wanted to include them for something different. In this case, I tried to include phrases that included anyone who wanted to smoke with my wording and coloring for this stance. In addition, I used headlines or phrases that were used in the old advertisements and facts about the product. When it came to creating the pixels, my research led me to put appropriate effects on imagery, filigree, colors and worn details along the page to sell the impression of the poster’s age.

booklet

The goal

I was assigned the challenge of creating a booklet bringing to light a present environmental issue. My subject was overpopulation. Requirements included incorporating a “diecut” which is demonstrated via the black circles on my cover and beginning page.

The process

As I strenuously researched overpopulation and its dangers, its believers and nonbelievers of the issue, and the threat of its arrival, I strove for this situation to not be overlooked. Unlike the individuals who question the validity of this environmental issue, I brought it to light with detailed paragraphs regarding the who, what, when, and where. Although paragraphs don’t particularly press the audience on the surface, I included elements to help illustrate this issue visually. I did this by increasing the stress of the reader by having an increasing number of people present as the pages progress. As well as a circle element to instill a feeling of impending doom, hence the severity of the issue.

POster

The goal

I had the responsibility of creating a 1920s theme poster to advertise a particular state park. I chose the state of Michigan, Ludington State Park.

The process

My process in creating this was to look at hundreds of 1920-era designs, and advertising and take the proper notes of what represents the style. I created a detailed illustration of the most prominent and known landmark of the park, their wheelchair-accessible beaches, and beautiful lighthouse. Homage to the era and catching the eye of the viewer, the scenery and art style is top priority, drawing you in, while the text detailing the park is secondary.

brand logo

The goal

Via an academic and personal challenge, I dove into creating my brand, which began with the logo.

The process

Endlessly researching personal logos and what they mean to the company and its essence, I sketched with the pencil until I flowed ideas and possibilities into what my identity might look like. Turning the pencil into the pen tool, I created numerous different ideas and variations. I intended for my style to show through. This meant that my love for everything vintage, and a childhood of video games, my inspirations were deeply rooted.

This was the design I chose for best representing myself, and who I am as a brand. Experimenting with scaling up and down, across various backgrounds and colors, this was a flexible and versatile choice to represent myself.

Website

The goal

The goal for this project was to design and code a website selling a product of your choice. I went with a personal favorite, Casio watches.

The process

To begin this project, I ventured into selling a product I use, and am obsessed with, Casio. To do this, I researched the company, its values, its history, and its eras of fame and what they’re advertising strategies were. Maintaining the vintage and sleek look that Casio is known for, I went with a color palette inspired by the 90s. In addition, I utilized a legible serif and sans serif combo to maintain this retro feeling. Not only incorporating these same creative processes throughout the layout but the images too.
